|Recurring Event (See all)

One event on November 5, 2017 at 10:00am

The public is invited to bring their family treasures and heirlooms to Belle Grove’s annual Antiques Appraisal Fair on Saturday, November 4, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday, November 5, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Two certified appraisers, Sandra Perry of Perry Appraisal Services in Charlottesville and Sarah Reeder of Artifactual History Appraisal in Fairfax Station, will participate in the event. Both appraisers have expertise in analyzing a wide variety of items including furniture, paintings, books, documents, jewelry, silver, pottery, and glass as well as Shenandoah Valley and Civil War artifacts. Verbal appraisals will be $10 for one item and $25 for three items. Appraising will be done on a first-come, first served basis. To serve as many guests as possible, individuals are asked not to bring more than three items. It may also be necessary to close registration several hours before the conclusion of the event so that all waiting guests may be served.

Belle Grove’s 1797 Manor House will be open for touring during the Antique Appraisal Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Admission is just $5 for those 12 and older; Belle Grove members and those who have items appraised will receive complementary admission for touring. Belle Grove’s Museum Shop will also be open and has unique local artisan products and holiday gifts for sale.

Included in the Manor House admission, will be access to a special exhibit “Yesterdays, Todays and Tomorrows: Needlearts Marking Time” curated by Elaine Evans. Each room on the main level of Belle Grove Plantation will have a focus on a different type of needlework from all times and places.

A highlight of the weekend exhibit will be Barbara Wise, a retired vintage linen collector, quilter, and fiber artist from Reston, Virginia. Ms. Wise will conduct three 90-minute sessions of “Linen and Lace Forward, an Interactive Talk” at 11:00 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Visitors will learn her methods of taking care of old linens and see some of her work using pieces that are “worn and well loved.” Visitors are encouraged to bring pieces of old linens, clothing, or lace to learn how to repurpose them. Due to limited seating in Belle Grove’s Parlor, visitors wishing to attend the talk should send a reservation request to info@bellegrove.org. Otherwise, guests will be accommodated as seating allows.

The Antiques Appraisal Fair’s sponsors are Erie Insurance and TWG Insurance – The Winchester Group, which has more than 25 years of experience insuring personal fine arts, valuables, and collectibles. The accommodation sponsor is Country Inn and Suites By Carlson in Winchester.
