Frederick County Government Employee Abruptly Resigns

19 June 2017 News

Frederick County Administrator, Brenda G. Garton has resigned. Her resignation letter came just two days after her annual review. That resignation became effective June 16, 2017. However, it is unclear what lead to the abrupt resignation, as her reasoning was not disclosed to the public. Due to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, personal matters are protected and the board is not required to disclose information on the issue. It is undetermined if the board intended to renew her contract or if Garton’s review was favorable.

Jay Tibbs, Deputy County Administrator for Human Services, will serve as the acting county administrator until Wednesday. At a special 8:00am meeting, the board will appoint an interim replacement.

In a news release Garton stated, “It is time for a new chapter in my life. For the past two years, it has been my honor and pleasure to work with the Frederick County Board of Supervisors with the excellent staff of Frederic County, and for the benefit of the citizens of Frederick County. I sincerely wish all good things for the Board and the County moving forward.”
