Local Schools Prepare Ahead of Tomorrow’s Nationwide Student Walkouts
13 March 2018 News
As school walkouts are being planned across the country for tomorrow in response to the Parkland, Florida shooting, local school officials are taking steps to make sure any walkouts that occur in the area do not result in violence or disrupt classes.
The nationwide walkout is scheduled for 10 a.m., and will last 17 minutes in memory of the 17 who died on Valentine’s Day of this year. A representative from Frederick County Public Schools was quoted as saying that their division is staying neutral in whatever student-led initiative takes place. According to reports, Clarke County Public Schools sent a letter to parents making them aware of the possible student action that could take place tomorrow; they announced that they are not sponsoring or sanctioning any student plans, but are nonetheless focused on providing a safe, supervised location where students can participate in a walkout if they wish.
