Frederick County Finance Committee Votes To Recommend Funding For Body Cameras
16 February 2017 News
At a meeting, Wednesday February 15, the Frederick County Finance Committee voted to recommend the Board of Supervisors give a little over $64,000 to help fund the Sheriff’s Office with 120 deputy body cameras.
A grant from the state Department of Criminal Justice Services would also help fund the body cameras. That grant is providing a little less than $105,000 for a total of 385 body cameras to be distributed through various Winchester and Frederick County Departments.
Many citizens attending the meeting were in agreement regarding the need for the cameras. They feel the cameras could provide necessary and valuable evidence in one-on-one cases where it’s a citizen’s word against an officer’s.
The Board of Supervisors will ultimately reach a decision on funding for body cameras during their meeting on February 22.
