Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced on Thursday, January 11, 2018, that Clarke County has received a $61,600 farmland preservation grant from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS). It was alongside Albemarle, Fauquier, Stafford, and Virginia Beach in being awarded this grant for the 2018 fiscal year; recipients must use the money to permanently preserve working farmland through programs that compensate landowners who secure conservation easements.
