A Tanker Truck Crashes in Frederick County

There was a single vehicle accident on Wednesday, December 6th, 2017 involving a propane tanker truck. According to Virginia State Police spokesperson Sgt Les Tyler, A Puryear Tank Lines propane tanker driver veered right on North Frederick Pike , struck a guardrail, overturned and toppled down a 40 foot embankment. The cab separated from the trailer after the crash.
The accident caused traffic problems for hours. The crash occurred about 11am on North Frederick Pike (U.S. 522), about a quarter-mile north of Bloomery Pike (Route 127) according to Virginia State Police and traffic resumed normal flow around 3pm.
The driver, Robert P. Napier had to be extricated from his truck cab. Napier, 63, of Crown City, Ohio, was hospitalized at Winchester Medical Center. Tyler said no propane leaked from the tanker, but there was a small diesel leak from the cab. He said state police were assisted by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the state police motor carrier safety team, which oversees tractor-trailers.
