Winchester Fire and Rescue to Host Fire Safety Open House

11 October 2017 Community News

The Winchester Fire and Rescue Department will host an open house at the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company, located at 2210 Valor Drive in Winchester, on October 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in observance of National Fire Prevention Week.

During the open house, attendees will learn tips on keeping their homes safe from fires. This year’s theme is “Every Second Counts – Plan Two Ways Out,” which urges everyone to have two designated exits from the home in case of fire emergency. Attendees will also learn the importance of closing bedroom doors before sleeping, a concept that can prevent a fire from spreading into sleeping areas – increasing the chance of survival and decreasing damage to the home.

Children will enjoy fire engine rides, engage in stop-drop-and-roll demonstrations, meet with firefighters, and be served refreshments. Children are also encouraged to dress like a firefighter for the event.
