Shenandoah university is deubuting its new James R. Wilkins Jr. Athletics and Events Center. At 77,000 square feet, it’s the largest building of its kind in a 70-mile radius. According to reports, SU officials would not disclose the project’s final price, but costs have been estimated at $24.5 million. SU Athletics Director Bridget Lyons led a tour of the new building last Thursday, January 25th, and was quoted as saying that it’s a great way to showcase the university and the athletic department.
Ashby Lee Elementary students were treated to a performance last Tuesday, January 23rd, by professional entertainer, magician, and juggler Jonathan Austin. Austin was not only able to get the children laughing, but also to educate them regarding recycling and the health of the planet. He informed kids of Shenandoah’s 13 recycling sites, and performed tricks as he reiterated the “Three R’s”: reduce, reuse and recycle. Austin performed his first show in 1984; he’s made appearances at Walt Disney World and Kings Dominion, and even performed at President Bill Clinton’s inauguration.
