WINCHESTER, Va. – The No. 1/2 Shenandoah University baseball team completed a long home stand Wednesday afternoon with a 17-10 ODAC victory over Eastern Mennonite.

Shenandoah (28-3, 11-3 ODAC) banged out 21 hits in finishing off a season sweep over the Royals (17-17, 4-11).

Sophomore Robert Marcelle had four of those hits on a single, two triples and a home run. The shortstop just missed the squad’s first cycle since the 2013 season with the three extra base hits and he drove in a career-high six runs.

All nine starters had at least one hit with Tristan Baker, Jake Loew and Luke Nussman getting three hits each and Dan Cameron, Nick Goode and Neil Dutton two each.

Baker, Cameron, Loew and Dutton all drove in a pair of runs.

Leading 7-1 following a five-run second combined with single runs in the first and third, SU found itself in ballgame when EMU scored five runs on four hits, two walks and a hit batsman in the fourth.

Shenandoah then pulled away with one run in the fifth, two in the sixth, five in the seventh and two more in the eighth.

Steve Jones (1-0), the third Hornets pitcher on the day, got the win with 3 1/3 innings of relief work. He struck out two and did not allow a hit or issue a walk.

Tyler Hott got the final four outs, including striking out the side in the ninth, to close out the victory.

Bailey Hall (1-3) took the loss for the Royals. He allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits in 1 1/3 innings.

Kyle Mathews had a pair of home runs for the visitors.

Coach Kevin Anderson‘s club travels to No. 11 Randolph-Macon on Saturday for a noon ODAC doubleheader.
