Winchester’s Ben Taylor Head to Va. Tech HOF
Winchester teacher Ben Taylor will be inducted into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame later this fall.
Taylor was a two-time All-American as a linebacker for Virginia Tech. He played for the Hokies from 1998 through 2001. He was credited with more than 200 tackles in each of his final two seasons.
Taylor then played in the NFL about five years with the Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers.
Taylor and his family now live in Winchester, where he works as a physical education teacher at Millbrook High School and coaches linebackers at Shenandoah University.
Another Va. Tech Sports HOF inductee announced July 11 was Taylor’s teammate, quarterback Michael Vick, who led the offense in the 2000 national title game and finished third in the 1999 Heisman Trophy voting.
Other inductees will include former Hokies basketball point guard Zabian Dowdell; standout baseball player Tim Buheller and Megan Evans, a women’s softball catcher who still ranks as the program’s all-time home run hitter.
