Winchester Police Captain to Deliver Active Shooter Preparedness Presentation

wpd active shooter presentationThe Winchester Police Department will host an active shooter preparedness presentation, titled Active Shooter: How Do I Respond, at Shenandoah University on April 25, 2018 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The presentation will be held in the Stimpson Auditorium of Halpin-Harrison Hall, located at 600 Millwood Avenue in Winchester.

Attendees will learn statistics on active shooter incidents, the effects of fear-induced stress on the mind and body, how to choose the correct response, and tips on how to prevent an incident from happening. The response methodology taught can be utilized in any situation and is a simple, straight forward approach that is easy to understand according to Captain Douglas Watson of the Winchester Police Department, who will conduct the presentation.

Captain Watson is a certified instructor in both defensive tactics and firearms. He has provided active shooter preparedness training to over 2,000 citizens, including the staff of Winchester Public Schools, Valley Health System, the City of Winchester, and more.
