Front Royal resumes disconnections

The town of Front Royal Department of Finance will resume assessing late fees/penalties for delinquent utility accounts.

Disconnections due to non payment will resume April. 12.

Those with delinquent accounts are urged to contact the town’s department of finance as soon as possible at (540) 635-7799.

Programs are available for relief for those suffering COVID-19 hardship at frontroyalva.com.

LFCC schedules commencement ceremony

A diploma walk will be included in this year’s Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) commencement ceremony.

An online graduation ceremony is scheduled for May 15 at 1 p.m. including a drive thru diploma walk.

Each graduate will have a scheduled time to have their name read, walk across stage, receive their diploma cover and be photographed.

SU Summer Music Theatre returns

Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre (SSMT) will return to in person performances with a production of the musical Grease.

The show will run for 37 performances from Jul. 1 through Aug. 1.

The Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre will be limited to 30% capacity with mask required for the show.

Hand sanitizer stations will be placed in the lobby of the theatre as well.

Concessions as well as the box office will also be adjusted to minimize crowding.

Tickets for this sole performance of summer theater go on sale May 3 at ssmtva.org.

Young Life Upper Blue Ridge 5K Color Fun Run

Young Life Upper Blue Ridge of Winchester, Front Royal/Warren County will host a 5K Color Fun Run April 24 at Sherando Park.

Anyone can enter the run with proceeds helping to send kids to youth camp.

We spoke with Amy Twele Associate Area Director of Young Life Blue Ridge about the event.

Frederick County hires new director of planning

contactless tax payments

Frederick County has hired Wyatt Pearson as its director of planning and development.

Pearson was Strasburg’s town manager for four years before that the town’s planning and zoning administrator.

Pearson begins his new position in Frederick County May 4.

Winchester City Council resumes in person meetings

The City Council of Winchester will resume in person meetings in the Rouss City Hall beginning this month Apr.

The meetings will be open to the public however space is limited and social distancing and masks are required.

All meetings will still be available to stream live and on demand using the agenda portal winchesterva.civicweb.net.

Public comment will continue to be accepted in writing by emailing the Winchester City Clerk.

SU Scoreboard, Nats-Mets On Opening Day, Caps Continue Road Trip Tonight

On the Shenandoah University sports scene, Bridgewater scored 2 late goals to beat Men’s Lacrosse 10-8. Meanwhile,Women’s Soccer blanked Shepherd 1-0. Today, Men’s Soccer hosts Randolph-Macon, and Women’s Lacrosse entertains number-3 Washington & Lee.

SU Football wraps up it’s Spring season Saturday with an ODAC “playoff” game against Bridgewater. Air time is 4:30 on The River 95-3.

It’s Opening Day in major League Baseball. The Washington Nationals host the New York Mets at Nationals Park. Capacity is limited to 5-thousand fans for tonight’s contest. Max Scherzer gets the start for Washington, while Jacob deGrom takes the hill for the Mets. Air time is 6:39 on Sports Radio 1450.

The Baltimore Orioles will be at Fenway Park to take on the Red Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10.

And, the Washington Capitals continue their 5-game road trip tonight, when they skate against the New York Islanders. Air time is 6:45 on The River 95-3.
