Valley Health (VH) is in need of volunteers to help at its Apple Blossom Mall vaccination clinic as well as other locations.

Some volunteer positions do require clinical experience.

However many positions are open to people of all abilities.

SU Commencement Ceremonies this weekend

Shenandoah University (SU) Commencement Ceremonies take place this weekend.

On Saturday May 22 Business, Conservatory, Health Professions, Nursing and Pharmacy graduates will be celebrated.

Sunday May 23 Arts and Sciences and Education and Leadership graduates will be celebrated.

On Saturday May 22 at 10 a.m. Sen. Mark Warner will give the commencement address.

City of Winchester receives the top award

The City of Winchester’s Percy D. Miller water treatment plant received the prestigious 2020 Gold Award from the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

The award is given for operations excellence for water utilities for high quality drinking water treatment.

The award is based on a 12 month analysis of data.

This is the second time the plant has achieved the gold award.

The plant has received the second best Silver Award 2012-17.

The Awards are from the VDH office of drinking water.

Rail work causes road closures in Frederick County

Railroad work starts today May 20 in Frederick County causing street closures.

Today May 20 Stephenson Road Rt. 664 will be closed for track repair the road should reopen tomorrow May 21.

Redbud Road Rt. 661 will close May 24-28.

Crews will be replacing ties in the tracks then surface the track and put rubbers back in and pave it at both locations.

Caps Fall Again In OT, Nats Nip Cubs, PGA Begins Today

Craig Smith lit the lamp in the second overtime period to give the Boston Bruins a 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals last night in Game 3 of their NHL Playoff series. The back-and-forth contest was the third consecutive overtime game between the two teams. Alex Ovechkin scored a goal for the Caps, who are down 2-1 in the series. Game 4 is set for tomorrow, starting at 6:15 on The River 95-3.

Juan Soto and Trea Turner combined for 5 hits, and Max Scherzer gutted out 5 innings of 8-strikeout ball in a 4-3 Washington Nationals’ win over the Chicago Cubs last night. The Cubs made it interesting with a run in the bottom of the ninth against reliever Brad Hand, but the Nats were able to hold on and improve to 17-22. The series finale starts at 1:50 this afternoon on Sports Radio 1450

The Tampa Bay Rays erased an early 5-0 Baltimore lead and beat the Orioles last night 9-7. The two teams play today at 12:35.

And, golf’s second major begins today, as the PGA Championship gets underway on the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island. Collin Morikawa is the defending champ, as a star-studded field plays for the famed Wanamaker Trophy.
