Middletown announces Grand Marshals for 4th of July parade

Middletown announced their Grand Marshals for the July 4th Celebration Parade and 225th anniversary.

The group features former Washington football players Brian Mitchell and Ken Harvey as well as Miss Virginia, Tatum Sheppard.

Mitchell ranks 2nd all time in NFL history in all purpose yards behind Jerry Rice and 3rd all time in punt return touchdowns.

Harvey is a 4 time Pro Bowler and one of the 70 greatest players in team history.

Miss Virginia is the daughter of former Miss America, Kellye Cash and Great Niece of Johnny Cash.

The parade will make its way down Main Street starting at 5 pm on the 4th.

Shenandoah Valley Music Festival returns

Shenandoah Valley Music Festival returns this year to Orkney Springs and is bringing some huge talents with it.

Some of the headliners include KANSAS, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Phil Vassar, and so many more.

The intimate setting with the backdrop of Great North Mountain guarantees a great seat.

Shenandoah Valley Music Festival is a nonprofit that’s been bringing performing arts to the area for over 50 years.

Their concert season starts July 23 with The Four Tops.

Virginia experiencing heightened bird mortality

Virginia is one of many states in the mid-Atlantic region that are experiencing heightened bird mortality rates.

Investigations are ongoing to discover what is causing birds to get sick, incapacitated or die.

Common Grackles, Blue Jays, American Robins, European Starlings, and finches have been affected the greatest so far.

The Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation is asking that you remove all bird feeders and bird baths to disinfect and put them away until the situation has improved.

Keep your animals away from dead or sick birds and if you must move them, wear gloves.

Accident claims lives of two truckers

A multi-vehicle accident in Berkeley County, West Virginia Thursday morning took the lives of two truck drivers.

Two separate accidents involved four vehicles and two pedestrians.

The first accident resulted in two cars driving off the side of the interstate.

Two truck drivers were bystanders for the accident and were going to check on the passengers when another vehicle came and hit one of their tractor trailers which then crashed into the two men.

As a result of the second accident, 52 year old Adam Miller of Hagerstown, Maryland and Ashish Patel of Ontario, Canada lost their lives.

The driver was sent to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

The interstate closed for clean up and an investigation which lasted nearly seven hours .
