Luray Public Notice – Hawksbill Greenway Trail

Hawksbill Greenway Trail will undergo maintenance from October 1st – October 3rd.

Work will take place at both ramps leading from Main st.at Ruffner Plaza and the former Brown’s building .

The Hawksbill Greenway Trail will remain open at all times. Ramp closure will occur in stages to allow handicap access through at least one ramp during the project.

Winchester PD has New Deputy Chief

Winchester Police Department has a new Deputy Chief, Paul A. Cleveland of Winchester. Deputy Chief Cleveland will begin his new role beginning October 12, 2021.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Shippensburg University and has successfully completed numerous executive level training. Including Leadership in Police Organizations, Leadership in Changing Times, Drug Commander Academy, DEA Leadership Academy, Force Science Institute, PELS, and the Naval Post Graduate School for Leadership. Paul and his family have lived in Winchester for nearly 20 years.

SU Names Leader of First Ever Marching Band

Shenandoah University has named their first ever leader for the Marching Band.

Shaun C. Evans of Minneapolis, MN. He holds a Master of Music in Conducting from the University of California, a certificate of music education, and a bachelor of music in saxophone performance from Georgia State University.

Evans comes to Shenandoah with varied experience at the university and secondary levels, not only in instructing bands but also crafting marching band arrangements, and drills, as well as conducting clinics and workshops.

“Start Small” The small business app

Governor Northam announces an app called ” Start Small” . It connects it’s app users with nearby vendors and local small businesses. The app is free and can be used by anyone.

Governor Northam said ” This app makes it easier than ever to support our local, women – owned, and minority-owned businesses.”

Central Outfitters

The Town of Woodstock and Central High school have put together Central Outfitters, it is an in house store for all Central students and parents.

Students or parents can make an appointment to privately shop the goods and pick up any school items, clothing items, or personal hygiene items they may need.

A long term project idea of the Principal Lori Swortzel of Central High School. All of the items were donated by the Woodstock community and the store was organized by the Girl’s basketball team.

Belle Grove Plantation host National Sheepdog finals

Belle Grove Plantation is hosting the 2021 U.S. Border Collie Handlers Association National Sheepdog Finals Oct.5-10.

In today’s News Maker we talk to Belle Grove’s Executive Director Kristen Laise about the event.

Am. Red Cross is asking for donations as they are in emergency shortage

The American Red Cross is reporting an emergency blood shortage with only a half day supply currently available.

Normally the Red Cross would like to have at least a five day supply available.

The current supply could be used with one accident victim.

Shenandoah Valley Red Cross officials are asking that even if you can’t give today sign up for a future drive so officials know a supply is coming.

You can sign up for a blood drive by using your zip code to find a drive near you at redcrossblood.org.
