Summer has arrived and Warren County is ready with a number of activities planned.

We spoke with Warren County’s Director of Technology Todd Jones about some of the activities in our latest news maker.

FCPS’s Dr. Sovine announces his retirement

A press release from Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) announced the retirement of Superintendent Dr. David Sovine.

After 11 years in the position Sovine will leave the office as of June 30, 2022.

Where Sovine credits the hard work and dedication of the teachers, administration and staff all FCPS have become fully accredited under his supervision.

Before Sovine at least one of the schools had not been accredited for over a decade.

Many of the schools in the county were in the lower percentage in the state when it comes to the Standard of Learning (SOL) exams.

Those standards have now improved under Sovine’s leadership.

Sovine is also credited with helping to create Bright Futures with the help of local community and business leaders.

Sovine is credited with many other accomplishments at FCPS Superintendent as well.

Unofficial results show Cline winning the Republican Primary

Unofficial results from the Virginia Department of Elections in yesterday’s Republican primary show Ben Cline winning the 6 district.

The newly drawn district includes Roanoke, Winchester and the counties of Clarke, Frederick, Shenandoah and Warren.

Cline who has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2019 defeated new comer Clear Brook resident Merritt Hale.

The Virginia Department of election’s unofficial results show Cline with over 82 percent of the votes to Hale’s almost 18 percent.

Complete election results will be announced Friday and include mailed ballots that are postmarked by June 21.

If certified Republican Ben Cline will face Waynesboro resident Democrat Jennifer Lewis in the November general election.

Staunton Police Department arrest a murder suspect

A Staunton Police Department news release confirms the arrest of a murder suspect.

Staunton Police arrested 23 year old Christopher Hoover of Staunton on charges of murder in the second degree.

Hoover was apprehended yesterday June 20 for the June 18 murder of a two year old child.

Hoover is being held without bond at the Middle River Regional Jail.

The investigation into the murder is ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to call the Staunton Police Department.
