News Maker Donna Hughes on HRLS’s summer reading finale

Handley Regional Library System (HRLS) will wrap up their highly successful summer reading program this week.

We spoke with Bowman Library’s Youth Services Division Head  Donna Hughes about it in our latest news maker.

Donna tells us about the amazing number of students that participated in the program.

She also tells us how the program is set up and the need to have participants submit their information by Wed. Aug. 10.

Donna also tells us about the celebration at the end of the event on Sat. Aug. 13 at Bowman Library Stephens City.

Laurel Ridge Community College awarded for work with SCPS

An email from Laurel Ridge Community College confirms that the partnership between Laurel Ridge Community College and Shenandoah County Public Schools (SCPS) has been recognized.

The collaboration was awarded first place in the Virginia School Boards Association’s (VSBA) Excellence in Workforce Readiness Award.

The award recognizes the Certified Nursing Association (CNA) Phlebotomy program’s success.

Eleven students attending the Triplett Tech program completed the CNA training and certification followed by completing a phlebotomy course this past spring.

SCPS’s supervisor of career pathway and technical education Todd Lynn was asked to help fill a need by Valley Health who faced a shortage of patient care technicians.

Lynn in turn reached out to Laurel Ridge Community College to provide  a phlebotomy instructor.

Lynn added that the award shows the success of the community coming together to fill a need in the area.

FCSO seeks information on a pickpocket suspect

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) announced that they are seeking information on a pickpocket.

The male individual has been known to follow females in Costco and pickpocketing from their purse.

After the theft the suspect has been known to go immediately  to other local stores to shop.

The individual has hit on multiple days with security images available here.

Anyone with any information or can identify this individual is asked to contact the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office at 540-662-6162 reference number 22003497.

FCPS offers an immunization clinic

Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) announced that they will be hosting an immunization clinic in conjunction with the Frederick Winchester Health Department.

The clinic will offer a variety of vaccinations Wed. Aug. 10 from  noon until 4 p.m. at the former Robert E. Aylor Middle School at 901 Aylor Road in Stephen City.

The clinic will offer Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis,  Meningococcal and others including the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

A certificate of immunization will be provided for each vaccine administered the day of the event.
