Front Royal lifts water conservation efforts

The recent rains and the light snow that fell early November 28 is helping to bring the South Fork of the Shenandoah River back to a more normal level.

This has enabled the town of Front Royal to announce the lifting all water conservation restrictions for now.

So far Front Royal is the only community that has officially lifted the water conservation restrictions.

Any questions can be directed to the Front Royal Water Treatment plant at 540-636-7474.

Be mindful of ever-changing conditions as the entire region has been under water conservation efforts since at least late August.

Water levels are constantly being monitored by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.

The Virginia State Police (VSP) announced the opening of an investigation on an Augusta County Sheriff’s Deputy after a September 29 high speed chase and apprehension.

VSP opened the investigation after the arrest and hospitalization of the driver Adam Ryan Martin.

Martin suffered injuries during the arrest and a warrant was issued by state police for the arrest of Augusta County Sheriff’s Deputy Sergeant William Mikolay.

Mikolay is charged with felony malicious wounding and misdemeanor assault and battery in the arrest of Martin.

Mikolay has been released on a $5,000 unsecured bond and has been placed on administrative leave.

The investigation is being conducted by VSP under the direction of the Albemarle County Commonwealth Attorney with a court date pending.

After the high-speed chase and foot pursuit by officers Martin appeared to turn in a fighting stance and a physical altercation between, he and the deputy ensued.

The 30-year-old Matin was wanted on several charges in other jurisdictions before his arrest.
