FCPS prepares for graduation ceremonies

Frederick County Public Schools is preparing to present 1,081 seniors with their diplomas during graduation ceremonies at the three high schools.

Millbrook High School’s graduation will be held Wednesday at 7:00 pm in Pioneer Stadium, Sherando will hold their celebration on Thursday at 7 pm in Arrowhead Stadium, and James Wood’s ceremony will begin at 7 pm on Friday at Kelican Stadium.

Due to limited parking at James Wood during their renovations, shuttles will run from Sunnyside Shopping Plaza every 15 minutes.

These event dates will not change due to inclement weather and all efforts will be made to hold the ceremonies outdoors.

Should ceremonies be forced inside, information will be sent by the FCPS website, Facebook pages and the Rapid Communication System.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early due to expected traffic congestion and limited parking.

WCSO investigate a motorcycle crash on Rt. 340

Used by permission by the Warren County Office employee Sergeant Terry Fritts

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) reports by email the investigation of a motorcycle crash that occurred on Route 340 on May 17.

A motorcyclist traveling south between 1 and 1:15 p.m. had a white van pull out in front of him turning south out of the Skyline Caverns parking lot.

In an attempt to stop the motorcyclist slid, lost control and wrecked.

The motorcyclist missed the van but left an approximately 120-foot-long skid mark on Route 340 in the process.

Emergency personnel took the motorcyclist to the Front Royal Warren County Airport where a helicopter awaited to transport him to INOVA hospital in Fairfax.

Scott Baker of the WCSO confirmed that the rider sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Route 340 had to be shut down for approximately 20 minutes to process the scene.

No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.

Authorities are working  to determine who was at fault in the incident.

Preliminary indications are that the motorcyclist may have been traveling over the posted 45 mile per hour speed limit.
