More Afton Inn Design Details Approved
16 October 2018 News
Front Royal’s Board of Architectural Review has recently approved minor design details for the Afton Inn as renovation plans move forward.
The board approved general facade details in July, and has now approved gray cement panels for exterior portions of two additions that will face Royal Avenue and Crescent Street. The Crescent Street structure is planned to include ground floor commercial space, apartments, and office space, while the Royal Avenue structure will feature a second-floor office space and a first-floor dining area with a roof and wall that are decorated with plants.
Architect Jim Burton has said that the ground floor of the original property will be a cafe market, and that plans for the Afton Inn also feature electric car charging stations. As of now, the Afton Inn’s old annex facing Royal Avenue has been demolished and stabilization work has already begun, with Burton saying that that he hopes to begin reparations to the building’s window headers either this week or next.
