The Winchester Police Department (WPD) held a press conference yesterday to reveal an individual has been charged with the murder of Lorenzo Coles Wheeler.

30-year-old Wheeler of Winchester was shot in the torso and was found lying in the roadway of N. Kent Street on the night of June 30. He was transported to Winchester Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

According to a press release from the WPD, a comprehensive investigation began on the night of Wheeler’s death and has continued to be a priority over the past four months.

Yesterday, Marcus Griffin of Winchester was indicted for the first degree murder of Wheeler. He was also charged with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.

Prior to the indictments, Griffin was being held at the Northwest Regional Adult Detention Center on unrelated charges, where he remains without bond.
