Authorities make an arrest in a Harrisonburg women’s murder

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Division began the investigation of the death of a Harrisonburg woman on Mar. 31 at 6:50 p.m.
Officers arrived at the 1600 block of New York Avenue Northeast Washington where an adult female victim was found in a hotel room unconscious and unresponsive.
The victim identified as 31-year-old Harrisonburg resident Christy Bautista had been stabbed several times.
Authorities announced the arrest of George Sydnor Jr. who was in the room at the time and has been charged with first degree murder.
Sydnor who has no fixed address was found with small cuts on his hands and a broken knife in the room.
Further investigation revealed fragments of Bautista’s hair on the 43-year-old male’s person.
No motive for the stabbing has been determined yet as the investigation continues.
