Bank robbery suspect to appear in court Monday

30 January 2020 Shenandoah County News

The man accused of robbing Sonabank in New Market is now in custody at Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail and will appear in court on Monday for arraignment.

George Wood, 50, of Waynesboro, was transferred from Middle River Regional Jail on Tuesday and appeared in court on Wednesday morning. Augusta County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Wood on Saturday.

Wood is facing two charges of larceny of bank notes valued at more than $500. Police had declined to release the amount of money Wood allegedly took from Sonabank when he walked into the New Market branch on Jan. 23 and presented a note to a teller before leaving with money.

The woman arrested along with Wood on Saturday evening, Stacy Bevan, was released by the magistrate in Augusta County.

Bevan does not have a scheduled appearance in Shenandoah County.

Wood will appear in Shenandoah County General District Court at 9 a.m. Monday for arraignment.
