Body of Missing New Jersey Man Found in Clarke County
20 June 2018 News
The Page County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for 36-year-old Edward Piccola of Hopatcong, New Jersey, since his vehicle was found unattended at a public boat landing in the Page Valley Estates area near “Lot 8” on June 3, 2018.
Page County Sheriff’s Office Investigators, with the assistance of the Virginia State Police Aviation Division, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office bloodhound unit and Page County Emergency Management officials conducted ground and air searches in the area where the vehicle was located. Piccola was described as a white male, 36 years of age, 5’9, 140-160lbs. He had no known ties to the area. It was believed that Piccola may have been trapped on the Shenandoah River in the dangerous flood conditions that were taking place during that time, and that he might be in peril.
On June 17th, 2018, the Page County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office in reference to an unidentified deceased male found at a campsite in their jurisdiction. Two days later, on June 19, 2018 Page County Sheriff’s Office expressed their condolences to the Piccola family and announced that they had been notified by the Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office that they have confirmed this to be the body of Edward Piccola.
