Both former Farmville escapees are now back in custody

Virginia State Police (VSP) report that both escapees from the Farmville Piedmont Regional jail are now back in custody.
Bruce Carrol Callahan was taken into custody the morning of May 9 around 5:30 a.m. without incident by Longwood University Police.
A suspicious person was reported at Lancer Park in Farmville.
A Longwood Police Officer was first on the scene and identified the person as the escapee.
Callahan was arrested and received needed medical attention and was being held until being turned over to the U.S. Marshal’s Service.
Callahan and Alder Alfonso Marin-Sotelo escaped May 1 through a faulty locking mechanism at the Farmville Jail.
The pair were aided by Marin-Sotelo’s sister who has since been arrested for her involvement.
Marin-Sotelo is a person of interest in the death of North Carolina Sheriff’s Deputy Ned Byrd and was arrested last week in Mexico.
Callahan was held on federal narcotics charges.
