Camping for Hunger 2019 Begins

18 November 2019 Front Royal/Warren County Camping For Hunger News

November 18, 2019

FRONT ROYAL – Today marks the official beginning of Camping for Hunger 2019.

This is the 11th year that The River 95.3/WZRV is hosting ‘Camping for Hunger.’ Members of the station will be aboard the CFH bus in the Royal Plaza Shopping Center parking lot 24 hours a day from noon on Nov. 18 to 8 am on Nov. 23. The goal of CFH is to raise food, monetary donations and awareness of hunger in the northern Shenandoah Valley.

All collected donations will go to the Front Royal/Warren County C-Cap pantry program. A full list of items that the C-Cap pantry needs for this upcoming winter season can be found online.

Last year, Camping for Hunger raised over 12 tons of food and $8000 in cash donations. Both of those numbers exceeded the prior year, and the hope of the staff is to exceed 2018’s records. Local businesses and residents have been incredibly helpful for those in need in the Warren County area since the beginning of CFH.

“We are able to garner support from community groups and area businesses in order to make this happen,” Royal Broadcasting (the parent company of The River 95.3 and WFTR CBS Sports Radio 1450) President Andrew Shearer said. “But, it’s the individual donations that make [Camping for Hunger] such a success. Our neighbors are very generous.”

Several local businesses used the run-up to Camping for Hunger to raise pre-event funds and food for C-Cap. Bill Long’s Car Show raised over $900 in just one afternoon, and many businesses and government centers have set up drop-off points for funds and food.

On-Air personalities Lonnie Hill, Randy Woodward and Josh Henry will each be on the bus for several hours, including overnight stays. All staff members, including Shearer, will attend CFH and help accept donations and talk to any community members that come by the bus at the Royal Plaza Shopping Center. All broadcasts for The River 95.3 will be performed live from the bus, including Randy and the Wake-Up Crew, The Valley Today, and Static From the Attic.
