Car Thieves Foiled in Front Royal
September 24, 2019
FRONT ROYAL – The Front Royal Police Department arrested Derrick Aldine Malone and Dakota Leigh Free for Grand Larceny on Sept. 22.
The car thieves made off with a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer the night of Sept. 18. The owner of the vehicle made a stop at the 7/11 on the 800 block of John Marshall Highway that night. He left the vehicle running and when he was finished in the convenience store, his vehicle was gone.
Front Royal PD interviewed witnesses at the scene and reviewed security footage to get an idea of who the thieves were. A few days later they were alerted to the location of the vehicle. It was parked at the Hampton Inn at Front Royal. The car was impounded and the police went into the building to arrest the culprits. Malone and Free were detained without incident.
The car thieves now sit in the Rappahannock Shenandoah Warren Regional Jail without bond.
