Cement truck crash snarls I-81 traffic Friday morning near Toms Brook

TOMS BROOK, VA–A tractor trailer crash on Interstate 81 near Toms Brook shut down the northbound lanes Friday morning for over two hours and snarled traffic for miles.
State Police Sgt. Les Tyler said the incident occurred around 10:05 a.m. near mile marker 292 when a tractor trailer driver hauling dry cement ran off the road and struck a guard rail on the right side of the northbound lanes.
The driver, 59-year-old Lyle Dillon, of Troutville, Virginia, was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Tyler said that the vehicle would be cleared away Friday evening. The incident remains under investigation.
He said state police at the incident were assisted by a Motor Carrier Safety team, the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office and fire and rescue personnel from both Strasburg and Shenandoah.
