City of Winchester flushes hydrants

amanda behan

A public notice from the City of Winchester via email announced hydrant flushing will begin in the City of Winchester Apr. 4.

The Utilities Division of Winchester will be testing and flushing all 1,300 fire hydrants through Oct. weather permitting.

The procedure is necessary to ensure that all hydrants are operating properly.

City water customers will not be affected by the work other than maybe temporary discoloration of their water.

This is caused by harmless slit and minerals that build up in the water mains.

Should discoloration occur simply open all faucets in your home and let them run for 2 minutes at the most until water clears.

This operation will not affect the quality of water in the City of Winchester.

Any questions or concerns should be directed to the City’s Public Utilities Division at (540) 667-1825 option 5.
