Clarke County Broadband Project Gets State Funding

1 April 2019 Clarke County News

A Clarke County Broadband Project is among 11 such projects across Virginia receiving a total of over $4.9 million in Virginia Telecommunication Initiative grants.

The funding announcement came from Governor Ralph Northam‘s office on Friday (3/29/2019). Also known as VATI, the program is designed to provide targeted funding to extend service to areas that are presently unserved by any broadband provider.  An estimated 15,000 households, and 300 businesses and community anchors, will have broadband service available due to the grant awards from this program. Projects were selected for funding through a competitive process evaluating need, benefit, cost and the applicant’s readiness. The $209,513 awarded in Clarke County will go towards its White Post Broadband Project.
