Clarke County Crash Triggers Homicide Investigation

19 March 2019 Clarke County News

Virginia State Police are asking for the public’s help in what has now become a homicide investigation in Clarke County.

Law enforcement first responded to the incident in question at 11:31 Sunday (3/17/2019) morning, when they received a report of a gray Chevrolet pickup truck that had crashed into an embankment off of Route 7 near the Loudoun County line. 72-year-old Jeffrey B. Evans was found dead inside, but his injuries were inconsistent with a vehicle accident.

Further investigation revealed that Evans had  been meeting with an individual about a possible business transaction in a gravel lot off of Castleman Road. The two met at 11:15 a.m., and police say Evans was shot just minutes after his arrival. He managed to drive away from the lot, but crashed shortly afterwards at 11:24 a.m. and died at the scene. Witnesses have reported seeing a white male run up to the pickup after it crashed.

Anyone with information about the suspect, or who may have seen another vehicle in the area of the Castleman Road lot or that portion of Route 7, is asked to call either 540-829-7400 or 1-800-572-2260. They can also email information to questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
