Clarke Superintendent Proposes 3% Teacher Raises

1 February 2019 Clarke County News

Clarke County Public Schools Superintendent Chuck Bishop proposed a budget for the 2020 fiscal year earlier this week.

A major feature of the new budget will be a 3% pay raise for teachers, which will cost the division just over $513,000. The budget proposes initiatives to help pay for this salary boost, including closing the upper campus of D.G. Cooley Elementary School to save $146,500, and eliminating out-of-residency tuition for school division employees whose children attend Clarke schools for another $25,470. The entire proposed budget is $27.9 million, a 0.5 percent increase from the current budget. The Clarke County School Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget at the school division’s administrative offices; that’s scheduled for February 11th at 6:30 p.m.
