COVID-19 Update from Lord Fairfax Health District

4 April 2020 Covid19 Luray/Page County Shenandoah County Front Royal/Warren County Winchester Frederick County Clarke County News

According to an email from Dr. Colin Greene, Director of the Lord Fairfax Health District:

As of 4/3/20 (1:29pm) there are 50 total cases among residents of the Lord Fairfax Health District:

  • 23 from Frederick County;
  • 10 from Shenandoah County;
  • 9 from Winchester;
  • 4 from Warren County;
  • 2 from Clarke County;
  • 2 from Page County.

Of those residents, 26 are men and 24 are women; 34 are between the ages of 40 and 70; 9 between 20 and 40; and 7 over 70. At this time, there are no reports of COVID-19-related deaths to District residents. Statewide and nationally case counts and deaths continue to rise rapidly. Worldwide, the number of documented cases passed the one million mark yesterday evening, with some 55,000 deaths.

The economic contraction in the US is expected to be substantial, with a similar effect on state revenue. In view of this, the Governor has just imposed a hiring freeze on all state employees. While not at 100% staffing, Lord Fairfax Health District remains sufficiently staffed at this time to continue operations.

The CDC COVID-19 site contains updated guidance for homeless shelters, correctional facilities, and disinfection and cleaning of areas. Dr. Greene strongly recommends all municipal and community services review their pertinent CDC and VDH guidelines for COVID-19 a couple of times per week. Guidelines change as new knowledge comes in, a cycle that will continue for the foreseeable future, and knowledge of guidelines, especially for front-line providers, can decrease risk for all.
