Culpeper man arrested for Stephens City robbery

A 27 year old Culpeper man has been arrested for attempted robbery of the Fairfax Pike Handy Mart in Stephens City.
Richard George Wheatly is being held without bond and charged with Assault, Robbery and Vandalism.
Wheatly is accused of attempting to rob the Handy Mart by knife point and getting away with an undisclosed amount of money.
After pulling the knife and demanding cash the clerk scuffled with him knocking over several items.
The suspect fled the store dropping his mask and cell phone a patron did try to stop him in the parking lot and was able to damage the suspect’s car.
After responding to the scene the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) issued a Be On The Lookout (BOLO) for the vehicle.
Culpepper County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) Deputies were able to apprehend Wheatly without incident as he returned to Culpepper County.
