Fatal fire in Frederick County

Around 6:20 Thursday morning, Frederick County (Va) Fire and Rescue
responded to a residential structure fire at 2543 Martinsburg Pike in Frederick County.
When crews arrived, the single family home was fully involved. Fire department personnel were able to extinguish the bulk of the fire within 10 minutes of arriving, but crews remained on the scene for another three hours for salvage and overhaul operations.

When firefighters were able to get into the home, they found one occupant inside the residence who had died of injuries. Another occupant was taken to the hospital for injuries but was later released.

The Fire Marshals remain on the scene investigating the cause of the fire.

The home is a total loss.
No firefighter injuries were reported.
There were no working smoke detectors in the home.
This is an ongoing joint investigation between the Frederick County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.
County units from Clear Brook, Greenwood, Round Hill Community, Millwood Station, Gainesboro, Frederick County Fire and Rescue Battalion 10 Duty Officer, Frederick County Fire Marshal’s Office, the Chaplain Corp and assistance from Winchester City, Berkeley County WV and Valley Health Transport all responded to the incident.
