Local schools partner with Commanders to grow girls flag football

Frederick County Public Schools, Winchester Public Schools, and Warren County Public Schools have partnered with the Washington Commanders to expand girls flag football.

The sport launched last year but the new multi-year agreement will expand opportunities for female students through the 2028 school year.

In August, the Commanders announced a commitment of over $1 million to support 127 girls flag football programs across the DMV.

Through the partnership, the commanders will provide direct funding of $3,000 per participating high school to support program operations and all essential gear including custom Nike uniforms, flags, belts, and footballs.

Superintendent George Hummer said, “This partnership provides our female student-athletes with an incredible platform to compete, grow as leaders, and benefit from the resources and visibility of a professional sports organization.”
