FCSO warns of two scams in the area

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about two scams that have recently surfaced in the area.
One of those is a jury duty scam that attempts to get residents to pay money for missing jury duty.
FCSO wants to remind everyone that law enforcement in any jurisdiction will not call you by phone or ask for the payment of a fee for missing jury duty.
Residents have also informed the Sheriff’s office about a Publishers Clearing House scam returning to the region.
In this scam, criminals attempt to trick people into thinking they won a massive monetary sum with a call, text or email but to collect, they must pay a charge like a processing fee, taxes, or shipping costs.
Scammers may attempt to get you to purchase gift cards, cash a fake check, or share a bank account or SSN to receive the prize money.
