Fire at Kingspan Insulation facility

25 February 2020 Frederick County News

A fire broke out on Sunday in the Kingspan Insulation facility off Martinsburg Pike in Frederick County. No one was hurt in the fire, which started by accident during the insulation manufacturing process at approximately 6:09 p.m. on Sunday. Workers tried to put out the fire themselves with fire extinguishers, but evacuated when that proved fruitless. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 6:18 p.m., and extinguished the fire by 6:50 p.m. The facility’s sprinkler system is credited with severely limiting the extent of the fire.

Kingspan plant manager Jamey Walters said this fire was the worst one that Kingspan has had at this property. He said that fire is always a risk, due to the combustibility of insulation. As a result, Kingspan takes fire prevention very seriously.
