First Night Winchester concludes its run

An email from The First Night Winchester Board of Directors announced the decision to dissolve its operations.

The factors that led to that decision included unseasonable weather, COVID-19 and reduced sponsorship among others.

For the past 35 years the family oriented celebration of the New Year has been held in Old Town Winchester.

Proceeds remaining from admission sales to the event have been donated to the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley (MSV).

The Museum was chosen because of their mission to preserve the cultural life and heritage of the Valley.

The MSV has been a long standing partner of the First Night Celebration with a variety of children’s activities each year.

The First Night Winchester board hopes the MSV will be able to carry the torch and re-image the event for future celebration.

Deputy Director of Communications of the MSV Julie Armel said it is too early to tell what  the event will be like in the future.
