First Tuesday in May means municipal elections for some communities

UNDATED – Many voters across Virginia will head to the polls today to cast ballots in municipal elections for local leaders.

In Shenandoah County voters in all six of its towns will vote for candidates for their respective Town Councils. Residents in Strasburg, New Market and Toms Brook will also make a choice for their Mayor.

In Berryville residents will head to the polls to select a new Mayor and seats for Ward 1 and Ward 3 on the Town Council will also appear on the ballot.

Polling places are open from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. today. Officials say people who are in line by 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

Registered voters must show a photo ID at the polls to cast their ballots.
