Fishersville man accused of assault in Capitol breach

Fishersville resident Jeffrey McKellop is accused of assaulting four police officers at the U. S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reports that two online tips identified McKellop.

One informant identified him as a retired U.S. Army Special Forces soldier and military contractor who worked overseas.

McKellop is accused of physically assaulting the officers and injuring one officer by throwing a flagpole like a spear striking which struck the officer causing a laceration to his eye.
