Frederick County Gander Mountain to Close

9 May 2017 News

In March 2017, Gander Mountain filed for voluntary Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and began work to restructure their company. The company was the nation’s largest retail network of outdoor specialty stores for hunting, fishing, camping, marine and outdoor lifestyle products and services. It had more than 150 stores in 26 states. Many of those stores have announced they would be closing since the company filed for bankruptcy. Included in those stores is one local, located at 251 Commonwealth Court Winchester, VA. The store is currently in liquidation. Gift cards will be accepted until May 18.

On May 1, 2017, Camping World Holdings, Inc. (“Camping World”), the nation’s largest network of RV-centric retail locations, announced the planned acquisition of certain assets of Gander Mountain Company (“Gander Mountain”) and its Overton’s, Inc. (“Overton’s”) boating business, following Camping World’s successful bid for certain assets of Gander Mountain and Overton’s in a bankruptcy auction on April 27 and April 28. On May 4, 2017, the transaction was approved by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Minnesota (the “Bankruptcy Court”). Camping World now plans to operate 70 Gander Mountain locations they feel could be profitable. There is no information of which stores will remain in operation or a final date on closures for other stores.
