Frederick County Home Completely Destroyed by Fire

11 July 2018 News

A Frederick County single-family home was destroyed by a fire Tuesday, July 10, 2018.

The blaze, located at 141 Gemstone Drive off of Front Royal Pike, took less than 45 minutes to completely demolish the home after it started at some time around 3 p.m. According to reports, the property owner, Richard E. Ritter Sr., was out of town when the incident occurred and was alerted by a neighbor.

Officials trying to put out the blaze had to rely on tanker trucks and a 2,500 gallon holding tank for water, due to a lack of hydrants in the area. While no family members or pets were in the house at the time, officials searched for two cows that were missing from Ritter’s  6-acre farm. Damages to Ritter’s garage, acreage, and home have been estimated at $285,600.
