Frederick Co. Pushing for Business Fire Inspection Fees

29 March 2019 Frederick County News

Frederick County’s Public Works Committee has agreed that it wants the Fire Marshal’s Office to implement inspection fees for commercial buildings.

As of now, the Fire Marshal’s Office only inspects high-occupancy establishments because of its limited manpower. The fees could help expand those inspections to included smaller businesses as well by offsetting costs; however, at its Tuesday (3/26/2019) meeting, the committee could not agree on their amount. They discussed a possible fee range from $100 for business up to 12,000 square feet to a max of $400 for businesses 250,001 square feet and above. County staff was directed Tuesday to work with the Fire Marshal’s Office to draft a new fee schedule.
