Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Shake for a Shake

Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Chick-fil-a of Rutherford Crossing and Pleasant Valley Road, are celebrating their new “Shake for a Shake” program. This special collaborative effort was created to promote a positive interaction with law enforcement and children in the community.
The idea of the program is simple, if a child approaches a Deputy and asks to shake their hand, the child would be given a gift card for a free milk shake. Sheriff Lenny Millholland says he thought of the idea while having lunch one day with Major Steve Hawkins, at Chick-fil-a. Following the initial idea, a meeting was set up with Keri Mounts, Director of Special Projects for the Rutherford Crossing and Pleasant Valley Road Chick-fil-a. All parties agreed the program would be a good way to reach out to the youth in the community.
As of May 12, Frederick County Deputies have gift cards on hand to give to children who approach them and shake their hand. This program piggybacks off the “Cops and Cones” event held during the summer. Sheriff Millholland is very appreciative to Chick-fil-a in their support of the program. He further feels that anytime businesses and community leaders can see a need to work together for a common good, it turns out fantastic for all involved.
