Frederick Sheriff’s Office Part of Sex Offender Operation
The Department of Justice has announced the arrest of almost 1,700 suspected online child sex offenders over a two-month operation.
Known as operation “Broken Heart,” the coordinated effort was conducted by 61 Internet Crimes Against Children task forces across 50 states. 4,500 federal, state, and local agencies worked over the course of April and May to investigate over 18,500 complaints. The task forces identified 308 offenders who either produced child pornography or committed child sexual abuse, and 357 children who suffered recent, ongoing or historical sexual abuse or were exploited in the production of child pornography. The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office has two investigators assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children task force, and they contributed three arrests to the 1,700 total with multiple indictments.
