Frederick Sheriff’s Office Warns of New Area Scam

18 April 2019 Frederick County News

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office sent out a warning Wednesday (4/17/2019) about a phone scam affecting the area.

The caller in this scam told a victim that they were a member of law enforcement calling to inform them that they had failed to appear for a Federal Jury Selection. The scammer told the victim that there were citations he had to answer for, and that he could either turn himself in or get a google gift card from Sheetz, requesting a total of $1,875. The victim told authorities that the caller knew his employment information, address, and seemed well versed in police language. Anyone who receives a call like this is asked to contact local law enforcement.
