Front Royal Council Prepares to Appoint Interim Mayor

23 May 2019 Front Royal/Warren County News

Front Royal’s Town Council is preparing to select an interim mayor for the town.

The appointment has become a necessity since former Mayor Hollis Tharpe resigned on May 2, 2019, a step he took after he was charged with sexual solicitation. Councilman William Sealock confirmed after a closed meeting on Monday (5/20/2019) that selecting the interim mayor had been a topic of discussion, and that council had considered six candidates, three of whom expressed interest. None of the three contenders are currently council members. Sealock said that a vote on the appointment will take place next Tuesday, May 28. Council‘s appointed mayor will stay in place until a special election can be held for a permanent mayor.
