Front Royal power outage affects thousands

Jan. 17 at 6 a.m. approximately 1,100 homes and businesses on the southside of Front Royal suffered a complete power loss.

The power loss affected the  citizens and businesses as well as Warren County Public Schools who delayed their opening by 2 hours.

Front Royal reports that power was lost to the Sprint Substation which is supplied by Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC).

REC determined that a tree was the cause of the loss of power.

While REC worked to remedy the transmission line tree issue Front Royal crews switched the load supply.

The town crews were able to restore power by 8:10 a.m.

REC crews were able to restore the supply to the substation by approximately 11:20 a.m.

The Front Royal energy services team including linemen, dispatchers and police officers all responded as quickly and safely as possible to restore power.
