Front Royal Seeks More in Damages from EDA

17 July 2019 Front Royal/Warren County News

The Town of Front Royal has made a motion to amend its lawsuit against the Front Royal-Warren County Economic Development Authority and its former director, Jennifer McDonald, claiming more damages.

Town Attorney Doug Napier filed suit on behalf of Front Royal on June, 2019, claiming damages of $3 million. The recent motion to amend that suit now claims that those damages add up to $15 million instead. The town reached the new amount by reviewing a study of the EDA’s finances by an outside firm, Cherry Bekaert. Front Royal’s suit claims that the costs were incurred when it was over-billed for the construction of the Front Royal Police Department headquarters, the Leach Run Parkway project, and the construction of the West Main Street extension. Napier said in a Tuesday email (7/16/2019) that the fraud could include other projects and items as well, and that “the wrong-doing is well-concealed and sophisticated.”
